Rag2gar previews Monday's first round matches in the World Matchplay Darts with four matches previewed and the advised bet being Anthony Hamilton to beat Raymond Van Barneveld.
Robert Thornton v Keegan Brown
This could potentially be the tie of the round I think. Keegan Brown is an exciting newcomer and Robert Thornton is always fiercely competitive so this could be a fantastic match. I think Thornton's experience should see him through to the next round, but I expect this to be close and I wouldn't like to call it.
Dave Chisnall v Caven
Two very capable players should make this a competitive affair, but I expect Chisnall to be too good for Caven here. His game has improved a lot this past year and Chisnall is now firmly established as one of the big dogs of the PDC.
His Premier League performance has showed us how he's comfortable on the big stage too. The combination of both of these should see him through here.
Phil Taylor v John Henderson
Defending champ Phil Taylor should score a routine victory here against big John Henderson as he begins his quest for Matchplay title number 8.
Henderson has struggled in the PDC and first round matches like these don't help. Everything Henderson lacks Taylor has and although he's not at his vintage best I fully expect the 1/12 shot to oblige here.
Raymond Van Barneveld v Andy Hamilton
Of all the woeful performances I've seen Barney throw in over the years I think his effort in the World Cup of darts was his best yet. Abysmal would be another way to describe it. I'm going to take him on here with Andy Hamilton.
The hammer is not in the best of form either, but I'm tempted to take Van Barneveld on with anybody at the minute such is his general attitude.
0.5 points win A. Hamilton to beat R. Van Barneveld at 4/1 with William Hill
