Wimbledon Day 5 Men’s Singles Previews

Tweener previews Day 5 of the Wimbledon Men's Singles and he likes a long match in Isner v Barton and Del Potro to take the first set against Stan Wawrinka.

John Isner v Matthew Barton

Isner is very short price for this match, given it all likelihood it will end in a couple of tie breaks.

1-10 for a player who can’t really break serve is a poor price.  I have gone for the overs bet to be safer.  This match can end in straight sets and the line should still be covered, given I expect a couple of tie breaks involved.  We all know what Isner can serve up, but we have also seen from previous round when Barton played Olivetti, he can "cope" with this style of player.

It was an ideal warm up match for Barton with Isner coming up.  This match will not be one for the purist since it will be very much serve dominated.  We would just require one of the tie breaks or a slight change of momentum for this handicap to be covered.  I would not put off anyone having a play on the xcourt market with spread firms since it can potentially make up into a very high number.

Advised Bet:

1 point Over Total Games 35 Evens ( 10-11 general)

Juan Martin Del Potro v Stan Wawrinka

Del Potro comeback in the past few months has been a real bright spot for the tour given his injury problems in the last few years.  His results have been satisfactory without being outstanding.  The game is still there, match sharpness and fitness will come in time provided he stays injury free. Also, there is still a problem with his backhand, he still do not hit it with top spin as he used pre surgery.  Nevertheless, his A game based around his serve and forehand is more than enough for most players.

The recommended bet is 1st set because I have doubts about Del Potro's stamina for a best of 5 set match.  We all know how good Stan can be but grass naturally do not play to his strengths, his long swings are not really suited to the low bouncing surface and his form has been under whelming for a while now.  Del Potro has the better game for  grass than Stan and he would definitely be a lot shorter if this match was best of 3 sets.  It should be 50-50 for the 1st set therefore the 2.3 is good value in my eyes.

Advised Bet:

1 point Del Potro win 1st set winner at 11/8 with Bet365
