Teaplanter looks at two of the maidens on Wednesday and picks out the once raced Hereawi at Nottingham and the unraced Initially at Kempton.
Nottingham 2:30 – Hereawai
Architecture ran a promising first race for Hugo Palmer when 3rd at Haydock nearly 3 weeks ago and should improve on that effort, but it is a less surprising to see her so short in the market here.
The filly we like is Hereawi from the in form Beckett stable. Beckett has been banging in maiden winners recently and struck again on Tuesday when Little Avon won at Leicester. Hereawi is a daughter of Oaks winner Look Here and she showed plenty of ability on her debut at Newmarket when 2nd to Haggle. It took her some time to learn what the game is about, but she stayed on very nicely up the hill when the penny dropped. She looks sure to improve on that and 4/1 looks a decent price about her at a venue when her trainer does like to send out some promising end of season maiden runners.
Charles Hills is not banging in the winners at a rate of knots but Cable Bay did land a nice prize for him last weekend at Newmarket and it is a positive that he has a decent record at Kempton. He has trained 22 winners here over the past 5 seasons, which is equal to Doncaster in terms of the course where he has had most success.
He saddles a really interesting newcomer in this maiden in the shape of Initially and with those that have raced previously, not setting the most exacting standard in terms of form, there must be a decent chance that this well bred filly is up to the task. She is very well bred and what is taking is that all 3 of the progeny that have come from the mating of Dansili and Emplane, namely Early March, Wingwalker and Aviate, have won first time out as two year olds. The last named was an impressive winner for Sir Henry Cecil at this venue in November 2009 and all 3 of these turned out to be very useful performers, although Wingwalker died as a two year old.
Bay of St Malo has reasonable maiden form, but there is little else in terms of worthwhile form among the remainder and Initially could not really have found a weaker race to make her debut in, unless one of the other newcomers proves to be above average and their pedigrees do not really excite.
