Roy The Boy previews the US Grand Prix and Sebastian Vettel for fastest lap heads his 3 bets.
Go Large in U.S. GP
The new age US Grand Prix has proven itself to be a mind numbingly boring spectacle since it was, in its latest incarnation, fist staged in 2012. High finishing numbers and limited overtaking normally conspires to make this a coma-inducing race. Only a handful of cars can be expected to finish the race on the lead lap, and the cars will be strung out like washing.
Five of the last six races this season have been won by 8.5sec or more and Hamilton scored by over 10sec when taking this race, for a fifth time, last year. Given Bottas will be under instruction to act as a buffer for his Championship chasing Mercedes teammate, Hamilton is likely to score for fun once again.
Seb to make it 6
Sebastian Vettel has claimed the fastest lap here a remarkable five times during the past six years. In 2017 he was 11/4 pre-race to get the accolade (which he did), this year he can be backed at 5/1. I cannot make sense of this, his car will be well suited to this track (which has similarities with Silverstone where Vettel went fastest this year) and he topped the time-sheets in the last race in Japan too.
Double points finish for India again?
The Force India duo of Perez and Ocon are doing well at collecting Championship points. Both have claimed top-10 finishes in the past two races and in four of the last five. This is high-speed track which suits their car’s needs so I think Ladbrokes 5/4 on a ‘double points finish’ is generous enough.
