The Messenger looks at the first day of the Cambridgeshire meeting and he likes the Roger Varian trained UAE King in the 4:20
Newmarket 4.20: UAE King
Despite being beaten on his last run at Goodwood, UAE King strikes me as a fast improving stayer who could well be up to taking in the big Cup races next season over 2m plus. However he can take advantage of the generous 3yo weight allowance in this listed contest.
He looked like being a highly expensive flop in his first few races having been bought for huge money as a yearling. However the further in distance he has tried, the better he has looked. Having won his maiden at 12f at Haydock. He eventually won well at Sandown on handicap debut over 14f, despite looking slightly at sea on the fast ground.
Even over 2m at Ascot next time, it was only in the final 2f that he really took control of the contest, eventually drawing 5l clear at the finish. That looked a minimum test for him so it was slightly surprising he was dropped back 2f and to a sharp track in Goodwood last time. As a result I am prepared to forgive him losing that day and this long straight should bring his galloping style into play. Overnight rain will also help take any sting out of the track for him.
1.5 points win UAE at 3/1 with William Hill and Betfair
