Tweener preview of Wimbledon Day 3 – Mens Singles

Tweener previews Day 3 of the Mens Singles at Wimbledon and he likes overs in the Marin Cilic v Sergey Stakhovsky  match and Giles Simon to beat Grigor Dimitrov.

Marin Cilic v Sergiy Stakhovsky

Fancy Stakhovsky to steal at least a set here hence this bet although I wouldn’t put anyone off the 9-4 available for him to win the first set too.  It should be a very close match.  Cilic leads the h2h 4-0, but the last 3 times these two have played, it has gone 3 sets.  Stakhovsky game is perfectly suited to grass, even though the courts are much slower. He can volley and grass helps his game.  He has even beaten Federer before on grass.  Cilic has been consistently underwhelming since the big US Open win, that was an anomaly event. He has never reached the level since and probably will never reach that level again.  Cilic haS got many assets for the grass game, such as his serve and his forehand, but he will get knocked out early 2nd week or before as per usual.

I predict this match to be pretty tight for the first two sets before Cilic pulling away with a victory near the end due to his greater weight of shot.

Gilles Simon v Grigor Dimitrov

One swallow doesn’t make a summer and I suspect Dimitrov victory in the first round was just that. There is no doubt Dimitrov is a talented player and grass brings out the best in his game.  However he is also a confidence player and he has had a shocking year thus far.   When the match gets tight and tough, which will happen here, since Simon gives nothing away, I suspect Dimitrov will come up short.

Simon enjoys a 5 to 1 h2h advantage, which includes 2 wins on grass which illustrates this is an awkward match up for Dimitrov.  He needs to be on his A game to dismiss Simon; he has not shown that A game for a couple of years now. If he has turned it around in the past few weeks, fair play to the lad, but I will be happy to take the 4-5 available that he will come up short against an ultra-consistent opponent who will grind him down.

Advised Bet:

2 points Giles Simon win match at 20/23 with BetVictor
