Teaplanter previews Tuesday's Horse racing from Leicester and his first bet on the card is 3/1 Thoonavolla.
Leciester 2:20 - Thoonavolla
Thoonavolla makes his first appearance on the race track since he was second here back in December and this looks like a very good opportunity for the Tom Weston trained 8 year old. Formerly a moderate handicap hurdle when trained in Ireland by Eoin Doyle, he developed into a really useful pointer in the UK in 2015, registering 4 wins, finishing off with a very impressive display under Gina Andrews at Chaddesley Corbett in May of last year.
He made his rules debut for Weston at this venue in December and although he was beaten into second place by 6 lengths, there were a lot of positives to take from the display. He jumped well and travelled kindly for much of the race, but was simply outpaced by a very well handicapped rival in Truckers Highway. The latter won this contest off 93 and then subsequently won off marks of 103 and 116 and is now rated 123. Therefore Thoonavolla was meeting an extremely well handicapped rival over his ideal trip and ran a blinder in the circumstances.
He now steps up to just over 2m 6f for this event and is racing off just a 1lb higher mark than last time. Hopefully the ground will not be too soft as it is somewhat of an imponderable, but with the step up in distance very much in his favour, he looks like a well handicapped horse that is worth backing at.
2 points win Thoonavolla at 3/1 with Bet365
