Tommy Mc Skybet Championship Previews – 24 September

Tommy Mc previews the weekend action in the Skybet Championship and he has bets on Brighton, Reading and Leeds.

Brighton v Barnsley

Brighton made it two wins in a row last Saturday when they beat Burton Albion 1-0 away at the Pirelli Stadium. This was the Seagulls second win in four days after they had beat table toppers Huddersfield the previous Tuesday and they are now up to 7th and on level points with 6th placed Brentford.

Barnsley suffered their first defeat in four games last Saturday when 10 man Reading beat them 2-1 at Oakwell. The Tykes have had a great return to the Championship this season and have made a lot of the early running which sees them sitting in 4th spot in the table. However teams will have started to take notice of this and they will not be under estimated from here on in.

I think this could be a close affair at the Amex on Saturday as both sides have made good starts to the season and are only separated by a single point in the table. However I do think home advantage will be the deciding factor in this game as Brighton are hard to beat at the Amex and they also lost out to Reading in the league cup in midweek, so they have no distractions from trying to get themselves into the play-off places and I think Brighton will win by the odd goal.

Advised Bet:

1.5 points win Brighton to beat Barnsley at 8/11 with William Hill

Reading v Huddersfield

Reading fought hard to come away with three points from Oakwell last Saturday as they beat Barnsley 2-1 and done it with ten men after Gareth Mc Cleary was sent off in the 34th minute. Jaap Stam has really got the Royals motoring now and they are undefeated in all competitions since Newcastle beat them 4-1 on the 17th of August. They are also just one point off the play-off places at the time of writing.

Huddersfield got back to winning ways last Saturday after their midweek defeat to Brighton when they beat QPR 2-1 at the John Smiths Stadium. This win was enough to keep them in top spot and two points clear of Norwich. David Wagner's men have made a surprising start to the season and have managed so far to stay top despite the presence of bigger clubs around them in the Championship.

I think this will be another close affair on Saturday as both sides are in good form and playing well, however even though the Terriers are top I still think Reading will shade it because they are showing a great fighting spirit under Stam as they have won both of their last two games after being reduced to ten men and this is something they were not capable of doing last season. I also think the crowd will be well up for this at the Madejski and I think home advantage should be enough to sway it in their favour.

Advised Bet:

1 point win Reading to beat Huddersfield at 31/20 with Bet365 and BetVictor

Leeds v Ipswich

Leeds made it three wins in a row on Tuesday night when they beat Blackburn 1-0 at Elland Road in the EFL Cup and this follows on from their two wins in the league the previous week against Cardiff and Blackburn. Gary Monk's men have been decent in recent weeks after a stuttering start to the season and have started to move away from the relegation places as they have moved up to 15th.

Ipswich could not build on their win over Derby the previous Tuesday when they played out a 0-0 draw with Aston Villa at Portman Road last Saturday. The Tractor Boys have been inconsistent so far this term and have not yet managed to win two games in a row as they sit just two points above Leeds in the table. Another worrying factor for Mick Mc Carthy is the fact that they sold top goalscorer Daryl Murphy to Newcastle and this might come back to haunt them.

Momentum is key in all leagues however it is especially key in the Championship as it is such a tough division and I think that will be the difference in this game. Leeds come into this fixture on a good run of form and I know Gary Monk will be keen to keep this going as he is a young, hungry manager who wants to make a name for himself and I think he will do a good job at Elland Road. Ipswich are hard to predict however I think this will be a hard game for them and I don't think they will come away with anything from this match on Saturday.

Advised Bet:

1 point win Leeds to beat Ipswich at 6/4 with Bet365
