The Messenger has two bets for York on Wednesday starting with Tommy Taylor in the opener.
York 1.55: Tommy Taylor
A course winner is fancied against the field in the opener.
Tommy Taylor has been largely disappointing since winning a listed race here last September, but showed more in a valuable race over 6f here last time, on ground probably softer than ideal. Dropped again in the weights today, he is now 10lbs lower than the mark on which he started the year. This drop to 5 1/2f might also be a good idea as he possesses plenty of early pace. He also has good form in big fields having been very narrowly defeated in a big 6f sprint at Newmarket last summer.
York 4.15: Speedo Boy
After running several promising races, Speedo Boy was in danger of not fulfilling his obvious potential. That was until running for the first time on the flat over 2m at Ascot last time.
That day he found plenty after being held up from off the pace, storming through to lead close home. Now that he has proven he can last the trip, jockey James Doyle can afford to be more positive on the 4yo.
At home on fast ground, a 4lb rise for that recent Ascot win looks fair and he is young enough to have plenty more improvement to be found.
