The Messenger has 3 bets for Kempton and Uttoxeter on Saturday and they include Billy Bronco at a big price in the Midlands National.
Kempton 1:30 Sao
This is an interesting race and the debut form of the Lord Duveen at Exeter was given a very positive boost when Kilbricken Storm won easily in the Albert Bartlett yesterday. Lord Duveen travelled well that day and seemed to tire in the closing stages, but he has had quite a long time off since and he might need this.
Grapevine showed much more last time on the all weather here in a jumpers bumper, but he was quite average on his previous two starts over hurdles and we will look elsewhere.
Sao is the one that is of interest, as after showing very useful form in France, he looked set to run all over Embole at Wincanton on his UK debut, before tiring badly in the closing stages. It is very possible that he was a Nicholls plot for the Fred Winter, but he left him short the last day. The festival plans were then shelved, but back on a flat track today and hopefully stripping quite a bit fitter, he looks to have a very solid chance.
Kempton 3:15 - Bundoran
Bundoran looked to have a chance in the Cheltenham handicaps during the week, but he was presumably pulled out as connections waited for better ground here at Kempton. He has yet to set the world alight this season, but ran a very good race on his return at Cheltenham last December and while he was a little disappointing last time, conditions might have been too soft and the stable was a little quiet.
The stable is flying now after an excellent Cheltenham and with the ground riding better here than he would have faced last week, he is very much respected here off a mark of 139 despite topweight. He looks worth a small interest.
Uttoxeter 3.35: Billy Bronco
Billy Bronco is totally unexposed and represents the yard of Evan Williams which excels with staying chasers of this type. Throughout his career it has looked like stamina was his strong point, right back to winning a heavy going bumper at Towcester. He won over 3m at Ayr over hurdles under similar conditions and relished the step up to 3m6f at Catterick last time where he was only really getting going on that sharp track late. He can keep galloping all day and seems to jump well, so this race looks tailor made for him even at this early stage of his career.
