The Messenger previews Thursday's Horse Racing and he has bets on Lettheriverundry and Clondaw Shane at Wincanton.
Lettheriverrundry may be by Diamond Green out of a Spectrum mare, but he has always had huge size and scope and he did not make his debut until impressively landing a Towcester bumper on soft ground, almost 2 years to the day. After that impressive display, he has shaped with a lot of promise in novice hurdles and looked to be progressing well in the spring/summer of this year, with a very good 2nd, when possibly outstayed by Penn Lane at Market Rasen, before then easily landing the odds over 18 furlongs later in May, when he hacked up by 10 lengths from Bandit Country.
He was never asked to compete in a handicap hurdle and presumably connections were always trying to protect his mark, given that he has promised to be much better over the larger obstacles. He gets into this novices' handicap chase off what looks a lenient rating of 122 and the drop to 2 miles should not be a problem for this strong traveller. The fences here do take plenty of jumping, but he should relish this test and the decent ground is also to his liking.
There are some clear dangers including Smoking Jacket, but he is 7lb higher for his Stratford success and Burtons Well. The latter is potentially a nice prospect, but could prefer softer ground and further over fences. Brendan Powell has his team in good order and at 6/1, Lettheriverrundry makes plenty of appeal here.
1.5 points each way Lettheriverrundry at 6/1 with William Hill and Betfred
The second bet on the day is Clondaw Shane in this Novice Hurdle. He has raced only once, when he was 2nd at Taylorstown to Lost Frequency. He travelled nicely through that race and battled on well up to the line, but was just run out of it by the Colin Bowe trained winner. He should progress nicely from that effort and now in the hands of Philip Hobbs and racing over this 21 furlong trip, he should take plenty of beating.
The market is headed by the Paul Nicholls trained Black Valentine on the basis of an easy win in his point at Littlewindsor. He did it well that day but it looked a weak race and he looks a real long striding scopey staying type that just might be done for toe in this contest. There is little doubt that he will win races, but it could be when there is more emphasis on stamina than there will be in this contest on good ground.
1.5 points win Clondaw Shane at 7/4 with Betfred and Bet365
