The Messenger has bets from Fontwell and Uttoxeter on Sunday.
Fontwell 2.15: Don Lami
Having missed the worst of the rain overnight, Don Lami’s chances will have increased greatly for the opener at Fontwell.
A winner of his only point and only bumper, both were on good going. As too was his very promising hurdles debut when second to Oski over 3m at Doncaster. He then produced two greatly underwhelming performances on soft ground during the winter.
It was difficult to assess his win here earlier this month given it was a three runner contest, quickly reduced to two. My guess is that he was value for far more than a slightly hard fought 12l win as he appeared to idle in front. Perhaps that concealed his true ability as the handicapper has left his mark on 118 and I think on his favoured going he can produce more when put under pressure.
Uttoxeter 3.40: Drumcliff
Drumcliff was pulled up having looked to have gone wrong at the Cheltenham Festival, but there clearly can’t have been too much amiss and he looked a novice to follow earlier in the season. He clicked with today’s pilot Aine O’Connor when storming home by 12l at Ascot in January – his only completed start over fences beyond 2m, a trip that looked on the short side for him when well beaten at Warwick. He does have a tendency to jump left, but that should not be an issue around this track.
