Tea for Two and Mr Medic are The Messenger best bets for Saturday's racing.
Taunton 2.50: Tea For Two
Today sees the inaugural running of the Portman Cup and course executives have been rewarded with an excellent line up. It also gives the former dual Grade 1 winner Tea For Two a big chance at another valuable pot.
His two runs this season have been in the Peterborough Chase and King George and he has given the impression that he just lacks the natural speed nowadays to compete against the very best. He has stayed on each time though and perhaps a longer trip against slightly less exalted company is what he needs.
Going right-handed has always been a benefit to him and he is not ground dependent. Only twice has he run outside of graded company over fences and he won on both occasions by 10l and 17l respectively.
Ascot 3.00: Mr Medic
Mr Medic is turning into something of an Ascot specialist having won his two races here and seems generally more at home going right-handed having won all completed chases going that way round. His win here in November was particularly impressive coming first time out at a time when the stable was struggling for form. He might have taken a close hand in the finish of the Caspian Caviar at Cheltenham last time out only for his jumping to let him down coming down the hill. Back to his favoured track he must be thereabouts once more.
