Teaplanter returns today and he has bets at Doncaster including Lord Glitters in the Lincoln and also has a bet at Lingfield.
Doncaster 1.50: Danzeno
Although he was not too successful on his trip to Meydan this winter, Danzeno will at least be fully fit for today’s return to Britain after that journey and that could make a big difference on this testing ground at Doncaster.
The 7yo has been highly tried over the years and finished third here on the final day of the 2017 season in a similar contest. He does seem best these days coming from off the pace – and he can miss the break, so sometimes his jockey has no choice but to arrive late on the scene. However I like those tactics on this stiff track.
He produced a devastating late burst to win a good handicap at Ascot last summer over 5f, but is equally at home over this 6f. He is adaptable to ground conditions and has run plenty of terrific races on a soft surface, such as when third in the Champions Day sprint at Ascot, and third in a Group 3 at the same track.
Doncaster 3.35: Lord Glitters, Leader Writer
This looks as classy a Lincoln as we have ever seen, but there is a small group of horses who look tailor made for a strongly run mile on soft ground. It is difficult to choose between two so I am having something on each.
Lord Glitters was a revelation on joining David O’Meara for the autumn last season. He flew home from last place over 7f at Ascot on his British debut and under similar tactics then landed the mile handicap on Champions Day at the same track. He was beaten in a small field at Newmarket, but the slower tempo of that race was against him. With a stronger pace expected today he can land this before surely moving into group company for the rest of the campaign. He does have top weight, but there is only a 10lb disparity between all horses, so that should not be a huge impost.
At a bigger price Leader Writer is a horse I have had in mind for this prize all winter. Another French import, he is another who has excelled over a straight mile. An unlucky third in the Shergar Cup mile at Ascot, he was an impressive winner over course and distance next time. Held up in the Cambridgeshire, that race did not go to plan as the front runners simply did not come back to the field. That should not be an issue today and he had a nice prep on the All Weather last month to be cherry ripe for today.
Lingfield 3.45: Amomentofmadness
A classy sprinter, blessed with plenty of early pace, Amomentofmadness can prove too quick for his opposition around this tight track.
He has plenty going for him, not least his excellent record on sand reading 3-4 including a win on his only previous visit here. He is also excellent fresh with a record of 21161 when racing off at least a fifty day break (this is his first run since October).
He won first time out last year in a similar race at Kempton by making all and attaining an unassailable lead turning for home and can do something similar here. He did not win again after that Kempton victory, but ran some cracking races in defeat in top handicaps against some big fields and this smaller field will suit.
