Teaplanter has two bets for Doncaster today and they include Beringer in the Lincoln handicap.
Doncaster 3.00: Red Starlight
This is another listed race that looks below standard and I think there is an opportunity for some each-way thievery with Red Starlight.
Sharja Bridge is an obvious favourite, but is very short for one who was a well beaten eighth in hos only previous attempt in pattern company and is only 2-9 overall. Instead Red Starlight has been the picture of consistency and progressed smoothly into listed company at the end of last season.
She is versatile regarding ground conditions having won on soft, good-to-firm and the All Weather and ended last season with a fine second place at this level at Ascot. On ratings she is only fifth best but, apart from the favourite, the others have mostly earned their lofty perch based on form of two seasons or more ago.
Doncaster 3.35: Beringer
Beringer plied his trade over 10f in the main last year. Definitely still on the upgrade, his major asset was his cruising speed and this big field will surely suit his style of running down to the ground. He won class 4 handicaps at Sandown and Leicester but performed with great credit at a higher level when placed at Newmarket and Goodwood later in the summer. The ground was against him on a rare disappointing outing on his last start at Newbury but Alan King has been sweet on his chances for this and he has crept in right at the bottom of the handicap.
1pt each-way – Red Starlight – 3.00 Doncaster at 6/1 with EWilliam Hill and Betfair
1pt win – Beringer – 3.35 Doncaster at 13/2 with William Hill and Betfair
