Roy the Boy looks at the SPOTY awards and the 100/1 with Boylesports looks a very good each way price on Jonathan Rea.
Sticking with 100/1 Rea in Sunday’s SOTY awards
The Sports Personality of the Year takes place on Sunday and I’m not sure what I’m expecting but I suspect some weird shit could go down. It did last year with Anthony Joshua failed to make the podium – something you could not back on 1.01 on the magical Betfair machine.
This time around the nominations are not being made public until the night which has to change the dynamic in some way or another. Most certainly Ronnie O’Sullivan did his chances no harm when winning last weekend’s BBC televised UK Championship and consequently he’s now as short as 9/1.
But I’m sticking with Jonathan Rea at a whopping 100/1 at Boylesports. That’s the the industry top-price and it's available each-way on the contest.
Let me remind you the Superbike racer from Northern Ireland clinched an unprecedented fourth World Championship title in 2018 and he was beaten in last year’s SPOTY competition by a vote deficit of just 3,000.
Samcro to be scared off of Champion course?
I’m making no predications here just stating the obvious: Samcro should run in Cheltenham’s Stayers Hurdle and not tackle Buveur D’air in the Champion Hurdle. He’s even got options in two novice chases. Connections say they are not deviating from their Champion Hurdle plans but they could have a change of heart yet.
Anyway, the giant Gordon Elliott trained runner can be backed at 2/1 to ‘win any race at the Festival’ with Ladbrokes. I can see no value there but the 4/1 about the same proposition at William Hill has to be of interest.
