Frazzled previews Southwell on Monday and likes the look of the Evan Williams trained De Bene Esse at 9/1
Southwell 3:10 - De Bene Esse
This is a very decent novices hurdles for a Monday and Southwell and Braavos heads the market for Philip Hobbs on the strength of his Market Rasen bumper win last month. He stayed on strongly in that contest and he is bred to improve for the step up to 2.5 miles over hurdles. However he takes on some very decent rivals here and Abbreviate is one of the chief players here based on his promising runs in a Huntingdon bumper and his 2nd in a Warwick novices hurdle last time. In the latter contest, he did very well to finish as close to the winner given that he was extremely novicey and he should improve a great deal for the experience. There is nothing wrong with his 4/1 price and we would put nobody off this.
However the horse that we like at the prices here is the Evan Williams trained De Bene Esse. The son of Scorpion ran a hugely promising race on his point debut, when he was all set to make Yorkhill pull out all the stops, but for veering left at the second last fence and running out. The winner has franked that form in no uncertain terms since for Willie Mullins and although you cannot read too much into it, the fact that he was such an impressive winner next time at Bandon, suggests that he is a horse of above average ability and he could make up into an exciting novice hurdler. In that Bandon contest, he was always on the bridle and despite some iffy jumps, he came away at his leisure to win by 8 lengths.
He looks to have plenty of pace, is a full brother to bumper winner Dante's Way and he could prove to be a very good acquisition for the Ruckers at £75,000. His price of 9/1 is bigger than we anticipated and he is worth an each way bet at these odds.
