Roy The Boy previews the Champion of Champions Snooker event and has bets on Mark Selby to win the event and John Higgins to beat Shaun Murphy in the first round.
Selby the percentage call in Champion of Champions Snooker
Snooker’s busy calendar continues apace with the select-field Champion of Champions event starting this week in Coventry; it’s live on ITV4.
The game remains mighty unpredictable right now with John Higgins the latest player to win a competition, last weekend’s £200,000 to-the-winner China Championship.
Prior to that Mark Selby claimed the International Championship, Liang Wenbo took the English Open, Judd Trump got the European Masters and Ding Junhui took the Shanghai Masters.
On the balance of all form Mark Selby is our tentative selection for this one, having shown more consistency than his rivals during the course of the past 12 months, during which time he has won the World Championship and this season’s Paul Hunter Classic and that International Championship. The 33-year-old was also a finalist in the Shanghai Masters and semi-finalist in the European Masters.
Selby should easily brush aside Liang Wenbo in Wednesday’s first round clash and then he will face a similarly straightforward looking clash against Mark Allen or Joe Perry in the second round.
Hills over the top about Higgins
Amongst the first round matches I like the 10/11 (William Hill) about John Higgins to beat Shaun Murphy. Higgins holds sway in the historical head-to-heads between this duo beating Murphy 6-0 when they last met.
Murphy may have been a quarter finalist in China last week – the competition Higgins won – but he was fortunate to overcome the unknown Yan Bingto 6-5 along the way and only narrowly scraped past Robin Hull 6-4.
Mark Selby to win the competition at 5/1 with Betfred and Stan James
John Higgins to beat Shaun Murphy (Thursday 1pm) at 10/11 with William Hill
