With focus mainly on the Autumn internationals this weekend, Tweener instead looks towards two Top 14 games for betting value.
Pau v Racing 92
Pau have had an average season so far. Despite big name signings, they have not made the necessary improvement as one would expect.
They will be targeting a win in this match against a Racing side who are missing many international players. Their first choice halves are not playing, Masoe is on the bench, Goosen, Dulin, Chat are on international duty and the list can go on. The fact they have Nakarawa and Masoe on the bench suggests to me that they have an eye on next week's game instead of this.
Typical of french teams in France, Pau are very difficult to beat at home. I expect them to win this match and cover the small handicap on offer. Over Points is also recommended for this match because the line is low for a Saturday day-time game - in nine of ten games this season in this afternoon slot, the Over Points line has won.
1 point on Pau -3 Points @ 10/11 generally
Bayonne v Clermont
Bayonne is all but down. To have any hope of staying alive, they need at least a point from this match. Luckily for them, the weather will be great leveller tomorrow night. The forecast at Bayonne is horrific. Its always prudent to go with the plus handicap when the forecast is such, in addition, its of paramount importance for Bayonne to get at least a losing bonus point out of the match. Normally in France, if the home team needs a victory, they generally will manage it - the "home" factor in the Top 14 is enormous.
Unders is also a play because of the weather, this match will be very much a kickfeast, knock ons and re-set scrums. Clermont have the better players, no doubt, but tomorrow night's game will be about motivation and a battle. I'm expecting a low scoring match where Bayonne can possibly sneak a win or lose narrowly.
