Punchestown Sunday Horse Racing Preview

CeeBee previews Sunday's card at Punchestown and his bet is in the Tied Cottage Chase with the Willie Mullins trained Mozoltov.

15.00 Tied Cottage 2m Chase

Mozoltov is now rated 152 and gets 8lbs off his main rivals. This means they’ll need to put up a decent number to beat him. His last run when he was second in a decent handicap was pretty much his first after 18mts off (he had an aborted outing in Cheltenham), so improvement is likely. Heavy ground is no problem and he has won around Punchestown before. A dual G2 winner, he won’t lack for class against this lot. Plenty of positives. Attempting to give a stone to the inform Nearly Nama’d was a tough ask the last day. Days Hotel was 14L behind in fifth, he carried 1lb less than Mozoltov.

With 5 wins from his last 6 starts there’s an argument to suggest Felix Yonger is far too good for this lot. I’m yet to be convinced. His last victory came against Bright New Dawn (and absolute pig; 6 seconds since his last win) and Hidden Cyclone who jumped horrendously. Oh and Days Hotel who was beaten just 5L when getting 8lbs. As mentioned he subsequently finished well behind Mozoltov and Nearly Nama’d.

Felix was well held in Clonmel first time out this season. He finished off last season all out to beat Baily Green in a poor Punchestown G1. Prior to that he beat Argocat and Raithlin (neither have done much since) and Cardinal Palace (who?). Yes he’s won 5 from 6 and plenty of prizemoney but without beating a real good rival. He’s by no means a good thing here conceding 8lbs to a 152 rated rival.

Flemenstar’s last win was all about falling. Un de Sceaux did just that before Simply Ned fell in a hole up the home straight allowing Flemenstar to fall in for a soft G1. Had UDS stood up and Brian Harding been more patient on Ned, Stephen Curran’s pride and joy would’ve been beaten 30L+. Simply Ned finished last in Ascot last weekend. The G1 penalty here will make it difficult for Flemenstar.

Draycott Place and Days Hotel have no chance. Twinlight is horribly inconsistent. On a going day he could win this but it’d be a very risky shout. His last two efforts were woeful.

Advised Bet:

1.5 points each way Mozoltov 5/1 with Bet365, BetVictor and Coral

3.30 Cross Country Chase

Love Rory is now in JP McManus’s famous silks and he’s probably the bet here. He has a tremendous 1112 record at this 3m cross country track in his last 4 outings. Uncle Junior finds 3m a bit tight for him. His last 2 wins came over 4miles. Cantlow refused to race last time. If backing him make sure it’s with a refund friendly bookie.

Ballyboker Bridge is the other one to focus on. He won this last year and ran well behind Josies Orders at Cheltenham last time.

The 3/1 with Bet365 about Love Rory looks interesting with Cantlow looking a strange favourite here.
