Premier League Darts Week 2 Preview

Roy The Boy looks at Week 2 of the Premier League and has a bet on Glen Durrant and is opposing MVG and Michael Smith in the 180s market.

Premier League Darts Week 2

We have weeks and weeks of Unibet Premier League action to look forward too, all live on SKY Sports, each and every Thursday until May 23rd.  The crash-bang-wallop nature of the competition format with its ‘best of 12 leg’ matches and possible daws makes it a very difficult betting medium to overcome.

I’m on the verge of a new resolution whereby I don’t back any odds-on propositions in any game.  But, then again, if you are not prepared to back something at 4/5 which should clearly be 1/2 you should not be punting in the first place.

Of this week’s games I really like the recently crowned BDO World Champion, Glen Durrant, against Daryl Gurney.  In a game of tiny percentages Gurney has clearly been a few points below his best in recent matches while Durrant made the final of a PDC Players Championship on Sunday losing by just one leg (to Dave Chisnall).

MVG no Master at Premier League 180’s

But Boylesports offer the biggest betting opportunity on darts this week with a new market on which player will claim the most 180’s during the first nine weeks of the competition.

They Make Michael van Gerwen their 2/1 favourite in this market which is mental.  Last year the Dutchman claimed 56 180s in the corresponding event last year, that’s only two more than Rob Cross, one less than Gary Anderson and a lot less than Daryl Gurney (67).  In the 2017 Premier League he also trailed in the 180 stakes with Chisnall and Barneveld claiming more.

Masterful dartsmith that he is, MVG is not an outrageous 180 scorer and he’s no 2/1 poke to get the most by the conclusion of phase 1 (week 9) of this year’s competition.  Just who will top this chart is hard to say but the recommendation is to back all players with the exception of Gerwen and Michael Smith who is too short in the betting at 3/1.

To explain that, the World Championship runner-up only claimed 41 180’s in this competition last year, placing him seventh of eight players that proceeded to the second phase of the competition.
