Rag2gar previews Week 14 of the Premier League Darts and he advises bets on James Wade, Michael Van Gerwen and Phil Taylor.
James Wade v Peter Wright
The penultimate night of this year's Premier League darts kicks off with a close match expected between James Wade and Peter Wright. Wade has a great record against Wright having won 14 of their 20 encounters. He also beat Wright last weekend in the Player's championship on route to the final of that tournament.
Wade also has advantage of throw this week. How Wade is the underdog in this one beats me. He may have lost last week to MVG 7-1 but his average was still 102. Wright may have beaten Phil Taylor but his average was only 99. By all means this looks a close game but I make Wade favourite. That's why he's my bet of the week this week.
4 points win J. Wade to beat P. Wright at 2/1 with Skybet.
Gary Anderson v Robert Thornton
Robert Thornton was fortunate to avoid relegation this year and certainly looks the worst player left in the competition. He's lost his last three matches and looks set for a fourth defeat in a row here. Thornton does have a good lifetime record against Anderson though so maybe it's not that much of a foregone conclusion. Anderson needs just one point to guarantee his place in the playoffs and should get that here. He should get the win too but at the prices available for me it's a no bet.
Michael Van Gerwen v Raymond Van Barneveld
Having watched Van Gerwen blow away his opposition last week (particularly James Wade) it's hard to see him losing another game in this year's Premier League. This week he faces his World Championship nemesis Raymond Van Barneveld in a game he really should be winning comfortably. Barney has been disappointing in this year's Premier League and is now certain to miss the playoffs. With little to play for it's hard to see him being up for this one. MVG on the other hand can still top the table and you can expect he will be giving maximum effort to do just that in the remaining two weeks. I like Van Gerwen on the handicaps here.
2 points win M. Van Gerwen -3.5 legs to beat R. Van Barneveld at 19/20 with Boylesports
Adrian Lewis v Phil Taylor
Phil Taylor will be absolutely livid he lost last week even though Wright only missed one checkout. The loss will have hurt a lot and it drops him back to second in the Premier League table. It's very possible Taylor will need a win here just to keep any hopes alive of topping this year's table, a distinction which seemed so probable only seven days ago. Lewis can book his place in the playoffs with a win here and he of course will be looking to do just that. When you look at the prices though you would have to say Taylor is the bet. He's won 10 of his 14 matches and averaged 106 in defeat last week. I think he has the game and the form to beat Lewis tonight in Manchester.
3 points win P. Taylor to beat A. Lewis at 5/6 with Boylesports.
