Potterman at Kempton heads The Messenger Monday Bets

The Messenger previews Monday's racing and he has bets on Potterman in the first at Kempton and

 Kempton 12:40

This looks a very useful contest on a cracking day of racing at Kempton.

Burrows Edge heads the market on the strength of the abundant promise he showed on his debut for the Seven Barrows yard at Newbury. Geraghty did not enjoy his finest hour in this race as he seemed to think he had the field covered when he came to joint the leaders and to my eye, he did not react quickly enough to Tidal Flow coming with a strong challenge. He would likely have been beaten by a potentially sort in the end though and while he should be hard to beat in this race, he might be worth taking on.

Highway One O' One looks up against it conceding 7lb to the rest of the field and the horse that is of interest is the Alan King trained Potterman. He is a lovely bred son of Sulamani and he looked to have well above average ability when winning very impressively at Huntingdon on his debut in May. Based on the pace he showed that day, this trip looks an ideal starting point for him and he could turn out to be one of the best novices in the King yard. With the difference in price bigger than is merited, he is worth backing here against the Henderson horse.

Kempton 2.00: Rons Dream

Narrowly defeated into second in this race last year, forecast rain will greatly boost the prospects of Rons Dream going one place better this afternoon.

An out and out stayer, she was just touched off by Surtee du Berlais in this race on soft ground last season. She then went on to win a similar contest on heavy going at Warwick on February over 2m5f. By the time the end of season Festivals came around the going had dried up and she lacked the speed to get competitive.

She was not disgraced over 2m in the Welsh Champion Hurdle last time and that will have served its purpose of getting her ready for today. This could be an interesting tactical battle with the speedy Jers Girl and La Bague Au Roi having stamina to prove. Every drop of rain will help Peter Bowen’s outsider to get involved.
