Olympic Marathon – Eliud Kipchoge poised for gold

Roy The Boy previews Sunday's Olympic Marathon and he is very keen on Dual London Marathon winner Eliud Kipchoge.

Dual London Marathon winner Kipchoge to complete his medal collection

Sunday’s Men’s Olympic Marathon looks a penalty kick for Eliud Kipchoge.  The 31-year-old already has two Olympic medals (a bronze and silver from the 2004 and 2008 Olympics) but those came over 5000 metres and 12 years since he made his Olympic debut, a first gold is now his for the taking.

Unlike Mo Farah, who failed to shine when attempting to translate his talents to road racing – he finished eighth on his marathon debut on the streets of London in 2014 – Kipchoge has truly shone since stepping up in trip.

The Kenyan won the 2015 London Marathon and doubled-up in the same race four months ago.  On the latter occasion he set a course record and ran the second fastest marathon in history. He was just 8 secs short of the all-time best.

Runner-up to Kipchoge in the London race both times was Stanley Biwott, he’s trading as second favourite at 6/1.  But a losing margin of 46secs in April’s race shows just what kind of mountain he has to climb.
