Shane Lambert looks at the Women's NBA and he thinks that the Los Angeles Sparks are good value at 14/1 for the title.
The Phoenix Mercury are off to a crummy start in the WNBA. The three-time league champions, in their most recent outing, fell to the Seattle Storm in a one-point decision 81-80. The team has been heralded for teaming up Brittney Griner and Diana Taurasi, however as of yet they have not found their groove.
Given how short the WNBA season is (34 games), three losses to the open the campaign constitutes almost 10% of the season. Unfortunately with short seasons you don't get a ton of games before you have to start committing to someone in the ante-post. In light of that, in my opinion, the time to act when it comes to the futures betting on the WNBA is now.
The Minnesota Lynx are the favourites in the small 12-team league and they are 2-0 at time of writing. However, the Los Angeles Sparks are 3-0 on the season and they are still priced out at 14/1 with Betway. A team that is undefeated 10% of the way through their schedule should have a better-than-average chance, meaning they should be shorter than 12/1 for starts. 14/1 is therefore a very good line, especially since the Sparks have twice posted a 30-point spread and beaten the fourth-favoured New York Liberty from Madison Square Garden by 7.
Thus far this season the Sparks have a three-way attack among their starters with Candace Parker, Nneka Ogqumike, and Kristi Toliver averaging 18.7, 16.0, and 15.3 points per game. The Sparks appear to be a deep team as well, going at least 11 deep for players in all three of their games thus far. With some scoring power on the bench, the Los Angeles look like they have some injury insurance.
You can't do better than +333 (33/10; Betway) on the Lynx at this point. However, 14/1 on a team that is blowing out other teams by 30 certainly looks like fantastic value. Each-way options are not available; however you can get the Sparks at 13/2 straight up for the conference with Betway.
For another line, Ladbrokes has left a betting line open on the regular season wins for Team Specials with Los Angeles. The Over/Under in that market is set at 19.5 with 5/6 available either way. At 3-0, you should take the Over.
2-pt bet on the Los Angeles Sparks either to win the WNBA title at 14/1 with Betway or at 13/2 to win the conference
3-pt bet on the Los Angeles Sparks to win at least 20 games this season with Ladbrokes at 5/6
