Eurovision 2019 a Punters Paradise
The 2019 Eurovision Song contest, which will be staged in Israel, is now less than 100 days away. It is a long time, so why are we looking at it now? Quite simply because this is the best time to get involved in Eurovision from a betting standpoint.
42 countries will take part in the 2019 show and, at the time of writing, just six had decided on the act and song that will represent them. 18 more are set to be decided in the coming three weeks. The first of those is Italy who will, amongst a major televised event filmed in San Remo, choose their candidate on Sunday night.
The deciding competition, the Festival della Canzone Italiana di Sanremo, is simply enormous with five consecutive nights of live televise action. It began on Wednesday when 12.2 million people tuned-in to watch.
And the upshot is…. Expect Italy to be smashed-up in the Eurovision betting and head all ante-post lists (possibly as short as 6/4) by midday on Monday. That is exactly what happened last year and for four consecutive years before that.
Back Italy now purely with the intention to lay them at a nice profit within 72 hours.
Back many big-priced countries/acts apart from the UK and Russia.
Abandon Russia, avoid UK
OK, point two is pretty vague but the Betfair Exchange is currently hovering around 114 percent which is great when you consider this is a 42 runner race and how the Grand National will feature an SP over-round of 140-142%
Most importantly the ill-feeling towards the UK because of Brexit is overwhelming and it conspired to see the country finish 24th (of the 26 acts who performed on finals night) in 2018. The UK has no chance in 2019.
Ditto those sentiments for Russia who are just 7/2 with the firms and 5.1 on Betfair. Russian leader Vladimir Putin is on the record as declaring the derisively branded Eurovision “a Europe-wide gay parade”. It is and the ‘gay vote’ is enormous in Eurovision. If they boycott a nation, that nation has no chance. Russia has no chance.
