The Messenger has two bets on Wednesday and they are both from Wincanton with Innisfree Lad and Pink Gin the selections.
Wincanton 2.30: Innisfree Lad
In cracking form of late, Innisfree Lad is going up the handicap as a result, but he has had the benefit of a recent wind op and that might just reap some further improvement.
Not quick enough to compete over 2m, he has been a revelation since being stepped up in distance. A winner on bottomless ground at Uttoxeter on New Years Eve over 2m7f, he has been placed in his two runs since.
He was third at Doncaster and then beaten in a close photo at Huntingdon. Both those races were on soft going and although he drops back slightly in distance, the fact the ground will be near enough heavy will keep things in his favour.
Wincanton 4.15: Pink Gin
Despite a moderate effort at Chepstow just six days ago, Pink Gin is fancied to return to form at a more suitable venue, Wincanton.
The vast majority of his career best performances have come on right-handed tracks, including both wins at Exeter and Towcester. His one run over jumps here was also his best ever effort over fences when second to the progressive Daklondike over this trip on December on similar testing ground.
He can race off the same mark of 108 today and should build on that modest Chepstow effort – that was his first run for three months, so he might well come on for that today.
1pt win – Innisfree Lad – 2.30 Wincanton – 4/1 general
0.75pts each-way – Pink Gin – 4.15 Wincanton – 10/1 Bet365
