Uttoxeter 2.45: Ice Cool Champs
Even on his comeback run at Wetherby recently, Ice Cool Champs displayed the odd sign of inexperience and there is surely more to come yet on only his fifth racecourse start.
He only saw a course for this first time on New Years Eve when a promising second in a big field Warwick bumper and trainer Philip Hobbs then sent his charge straight over hurdles. He won his first race over obstacles at Hereford despite idling badly on hitting the front, suggesting there was far more in the locker.
He returned to the same track under a penalty but could only finish third on drying ground – his round action suggests the softer the going the better for him. He made his return over 2m3f at Wetherby and having got briefly outpaced turning for home he ran on strongly to place third. The extra trip and softer going today will be right up his street.
