Pairofbrowneyes can land Boylesports Hurdle

CeeBee looks at the Boylesports Hurdle on Sunday and he likes the 16/1 about the Liz Doyle trained Pairofbrowneyes.

2.20 Leopardstown – 2m5f Boylesports Chase

I tipped He’llberemembered during the week (READ HERE) and whilst we’ve secured the valuable 4 places e/w despite only a max of 15 going to post there is still plenty of value left in him at 12/1.

His course and distance form is very good and he’s in great form having won over hurdles on New Year’s Eve. I still think Foxrock will be vulnerable to a speedier type at the finish but as the betting suggests it is a tremendously competitive race.

Only the 25 runners here. You genuinely could make a case for them all but my preference is for the Liz Doyle trained Pairofbrowneyes. One of the big days in Liz’s training career came when she won this race with Penny’s Bill in 2009 and I think she could be in line for another big prize. Pairofbrowneyes is a lightly raced, relatively unexposed 6yo. He started his career over fences last winter before dropping back over hurdles to win his maiden at Fairyhouse over 2m4f. He then made his handicap debut, 2nd hurdles start, off 113. Here he finished a decent 4L 4th to Sammy Black. The winner is now 10lbs higher after twice finishing 2nd off higher marks. The 3rd Rory O’Moore is now 7lbs higher having won in Cork late last year. Pairofbrowneyes is only 7lbs higher now. His next start was his last start. He’s only has 3 runs over hurdles. It was his seasonal reappearance and it was a winning one in Punchestown in November. He defeated Pivot Bridge and Black Spot On. BSO has held up the form by finishing 2nd & 3rd in similar contests since. That 3rd was behind Shantou Ed and Rock the World who are towards the top of this market. Also behind in Punchestown were Fosters Cross (7th) and Forty Foot Tom (6th) both of whom have won since. 4th home The Herds Garden finished a similar 4th at Christmas in a competitive handicap. The form is rock solid. I’d be surprised if Pairofbrowneyes didn’t finish this season rated at least 10lbs higher.

Having won when fresh I’m speculating that Liz will have kept him relatively fresh for this big prize. He should still be improving having had only 1 start this year and 3 starts over hurdles. The fact he’s won over further is a positive also. This big field will go very hard and stamina will be required. Previous winners like Abbey Lane and Gilgamboa were proven over further. The favourite Snake Eyes looks like he’s not the most straight forward in a finish. Clondaw Warrior probably needs further and better ground. Of those further down the lists, 33/1 shot Draco could be worth a second look. He was an eye catcher behind Shantou Ed last time. Ted Veale is another although Tony Martin could have one eye on something like the County hurdle. He ran well last time despite being beat 17L. He’s not a good chaser. Should have won this race back in 2013 before going on to win the year’s County Hurdle.
