Crafty Bombers Bullet the fancy at Monmore
There’s two category 1 greyhound finals on Thursday night. Alas SKY coverage is a thing of the past but you can watch both in a betting shop or online. At Monmore, in the Summer Stayers Classic final, I really fancy Derby finalist Bombers Bullet.
On stepping up to six bends this fella netted £15,000 when winning the William Hill Grand Prix at Sunderland despite the inconvenience of a ‘no-race’ semi-final and opening-bend crowding in the final.
Switched to Monmore the April 2015 whelp is two-from-two and has shown some excellent track-craft in the process. Naturally Roxholme Poppy would be a threat if this were a match-race (and would probably start favourite), but it is not and I’ll oppose that 27-kilo bitch in the knowledge she is prone to a missed-break and has also checked at the sough in a recent start – that’s always a worry.
Bombers Bullet is as short as 6/4 with William Hill but can be backed at 9/4 with Betfred
Too Trappy for me
At Newcastle, in the William Hill Northern Puppy Derby final, all eyes will be on Droopys Trapper. Unbeaten in seven starts (starting clear odds-on in his last six races) the locally-trained pup, who is odds-on across the boards, goes from trap 6.
But Droopys Trapper (who is a middle seed) has very little in hand on the clock – nothing at all with Roxholme Butt who went .15spots quicker than the favourite in the semi-final – and I cannot fathom the price.
Puppy races are notorious for trouble-in-running and this race is littered with beaten odds-on shots. Just eight favourites have win this final since it was first run 24 years ago. Surely this is one ‘jolly’ you want to take on and instead of trying to pin-point a winner, simply reach for the ‘lay button’ on Betfair’s exchange.
Bombers Bullet (8.42pm Monmore Thursday) 9/4 with Betfred
