Greyhounds – TV Trophy and Essex Vase final bets

Roy the Boy looks at the TV Trophy and Essex Vase finals and has bets on Slippy Maggie and Brigadier Bullet.

Class will prevail in TV Trophy Final

All six finalists in the TV Trophy are bitches, which is great as the fairer sex are considerably smaller than their male counterparts in greyhound racing and Crayford is custom made for small dogs, Jack Russell Terriers to be precise.

874 metres around this kip and a race that is set to last almost a minute could send you dizzy but hopefully it will send you home rich as the classy Slippy Maggie is confidentially expected to brush aside Maireads Ivy who may be a standing dish around this hell-hole but does not have anything like the class of Slippy Maggie.

Our fancy won the Kent St Leger here before finishing second in the St Leger, Great North Run and Yorkshire St Leger.  Let us not forget she also claimed the Gold Cup at Henlow over 550 metres during the spring.  It is some record considering Slippy Maggie is not three until next April.

But Maireads Ivy goes into this £9,000 final as favourite though.  Now past her fourth birthday she has ran around here almost exclusively this year – apart from a few A4 graded race appearances at Hove.

Forget what the clock says – which is Maireads Ivy should prevail by less than a length – and concentrate on what your head and heart tells you about ‘class’ in dog racing.  Slippy Maggie will assume the lead from the front running Maireads Ivy and trap-6 runner, Tellhersomething, by the sixth, eighth or tenth bend and will win going away.

Bite the Bullet at Romford and take the odds-on in the Vase

24 hours beforehand, at Romford, there’s no good reason to oppose Brigadier Bullet (4/5, BetVictor/Coral) in the Essex Vase final.  The lightly-raced July 2016 whelp is on a winning sequence of four and is clearly improving rapidly.

He clocked the fastest time of the three semi-finals and he’s plotted up in trap 6 as the only wide-runner in the field.  Trainer Mark Wallis has won this race four times since 2006 so how can Brigadier Bullet sensibly be opposed?
