CeeBee looks at the rest of Doncaster's Saturday card and he has 3 bets including a very strong bet on Barters Hill and bets on Dresden and Turn Over Sivola.
If you watch all these races without having a single bet I wouldn’t blame you. A fascinating days racing in store. But there’s some value to be hand in my opinion.
13.00 Lightning Novice Chase
The three ‘outsiders’ bring a ridiculously strong level of form to this. At the prices I’d be fairly eager to take on Shaneshill (not convinced by his jumping or that he’s a 2miler) but with which one? Vaniteux has the best form, but I feel he should have won last time, was he a little soft in the finish?
1.30 Handicap Chase 2m
Over hurdles I always felt 2 miles was on the sharp side for On Tour. He’s well handicapped no doubt, but at the prices I’m happy to look elsewhere. Gardefort has quite an inconsistent profile so others appeal more than him.
Dresden is a much improved horse this season for Henry Oliver. Despite winning by 19L at Aintree he was somewhat ignored in the market at Ascot when winning at 7/1. He got a 5lb rise for that and that appears lenient. He won quite comfortably from decent yardsticks. Dunraven Storm, Workbench and Fago have all ran well enough since. A repeat of that will see him hard to beat in this company, but again the market seems to be ignoring him - he’s 9/1
Turn Over Sivola is a danger to the selection. He had no chance at the trip (2m5f) last time and prior to that he got an aggressive ride where it paid to be held up. He looks to only barely get 2miles so it’s no surprise that all his best form is at flat tracks. Doncaster, Wincanton, Kempton etc. Having Denis O’Regan up looks an ideal booking to be delivered late. He’s 5lbs lower than when 5th in the Grand Annual, that’s a workable mark in this company. The fancy prices are gone but 7/1 is still worth a punt.
14.05 Mares Hurdle
Morning Run is a fierce keen sort. The drop back to 2miles will suit her. And her first run of the season at Leopardstown will have taken some of the fizz out of her. At 11/8 best price I’m happy to watch, she’s untested outside of novice company and whilst winning 6 out of 7 she hasn’t faced too many good ones. Not that there’s any in here either I suppose.
14.40 Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle
I’m a big Barters Hill fan, but my god have they found a competitive ‘trial’!! HERE is an ante-post Cheltenham piece I wrote about him a few weeks back. For me he’s the best novice in either country and will handle this trip no problem. He may actually improve for racing against a decent rival. Up For Review’s price reflects his stable power rather than form in my opinion. Even for one who doesn’t like backing short ones… 10/11 to beat an overrated rival in a match is a bet.
15.15 Sky Bet Chase
