Derby head Tommy Mc Weekend Championship Bets

Tommy Mc previews the weekend action in the Championship and he has bets on Derby, Blackburn and a draw between Sheffield Wednesday and Preston.

Wigan v Derby

Derby made it four wins in a row last Saturday when they beat Norwich 1-0 at the iPro Stadium. This good run of form has lifted Derby to within three points of the play-off places as Steve Mc Claren has got this team playing to their potential now after a stuttering start to the season.

Wigan picked up their first win in three games on Monday night when they beat Huddersfield 2-1 at the John Smith's Stadium. The Latics are still at the wrong end of the table and this win was not enough to lift them out of the relegation places as they are 3rd bottom and a point from safety.

Wigan have struggled since returning to the Championship and were very lucky on Monday night as they caught Huddersfield twice on the break in a game which the Terriers dominated. Derby are getting stronger as each week goes by and instead of looking like a good side on paper they are now looking like a good side on the pitch as Mc Claren has them playing again like the way they were the year he took them to the play-off final in his first stint in charge. Wigan would have taken heart from Monday's result however they are not good enough to beat Derby and I fancy the Rams to come away with all three points from the DW on Saturday.

Advised Bet

1,5 points win Derby to beat Wigan at 5/4 with Betfred and Paddy Power

Blackburn v Huddersfield

Blackburn pulled off the shock of the weekend last Saturday when they beat Newcastle 1-0 at St James's Park. Rovers were massive underdogs going into this game however they have now won two on the bounce and have managed to pull themselves out of the bottom three.

Huddersfield are now four games without a win after Wigan beat them 2-1 at the John Smith's Stadium on Monday Night. The Terriers have gone from contesting top of the table to holding onto the last play-off spot by virtue of a point and are now 11 points behind leaders Newcastle.

Huddersfield played well on Monday Night, however for all their dominance they could not manage to convert the chances and I think this has been their problem over the last few weeks as they are not clinical enough in front of goal. Blackburn's confidence is bound to be very high after last Saturday's result and also due to the fact that this is the first time this season they have won back to back games and I think they might go on a bit of a run now. This will probably be a close game however Huddersfield have taken a few knocks in recent weeks and Blackburn have improved enough to win this and I think they will by the odd goal.

Sheffield Wednesday v Preston

Sheffield Wednesday picked up their first win in four games last Saturday when they beat Wolves 2-0 at Molineux. The Owls mini slump didn't hit them too bad as they are in 7th place and just a point behind 6th placed Huddersfield and I fully expect Wednesday to be involved in the play-off picture for the rest of the season.

Preston made it three games unbeaten last Saturday when they drew 1-1 with Burton Albion at Deepdale. Simon Grayson's men have done well so far after a shaky start where they were flirting with relegation, they are now sitting in mid-table safety and are seven points clear of the drop zone.

I think this will be a tight game at Hillsborough on Saturday as there is not much between these two sides with only three points separating them in the league. Both are well organised and well capable of closing the other team down and I think this will lead to a very tactical affair with chances at a premium and I wouldn't be surprised if it finished 0-0 as both sides cancel each other out. I think a draw is definitely the best option in this game.
