The Messenger has one bet on Wednesday and it is Clonacool at Taunton.
Taunton 3.20: Cloonacool
In what could prove a tactical affair, Cloonacool has the speed to take advantage around this sharp track.
Very much at his best on sharp, right-handed tracks, Cloonacool ran well enough in a listed handicap at Market Rasen last month (Red Tornado well behind). That was a contest the 8yo won in his pomp in 2015, and whilst he is not running to that level any more, the assessor has dropped him accordingly and he is now 9lbs lower than when achieving his career highlight.
We can pick holes in the form of his rivals. Red Tornado is also not the force of old, but is yet to benefit from the handicapper. Zalvados rarely wins, Man of Plenty would prefer a stiffer track and has to back up a recent hard run at Cheltenham whilst Barman looks inconsistent and may be too keen if this is slowly run.
1pt win – Cloonacool – 3.20 Taunton at 15/8 with Paddy Power and Betfair
