Ceebee previews Sunday's card from Leopardstown and has bets on Jett, Barely Legal, I'm All You Need and Bishopslough.
14.00 2m4f Maiden Hurdle
Potters Point has been beaten 4 times at evens or odds on. Ok he has met some above-average sorts in Tombstone, Archive and Woodland Opera but it’s his style of racing including a high head carriage that’s quite off putting. The step up in trip will help but at 6/4 he must still be taken on. Stowaway Shark’s form is well short of what is required. The yard are not going well either (worse than usual). Space Cadet has been beaten favourite 3 times also, he’s only 1 from 8. Last time at Fairyhouse he only ran on late when the race was over. Another uninspiring sort.
Jett makes his hurdling debut which is a slight negative against more experienced sorts but Jezki, Jered and Jenari were all well able to jump. What a mare La Noire was! Jett’s bumper form wasn’t superb but he too met some smart types in Balko Des Flos, Disko, Tamlough Boy and Blow By Blow. He can step up on that form over hurdles. The step up in trip should also help him. Those relatives mentioned above all stayed well.
At 11/2 he’s worth a small each-way bet against others at the head of the market who are crying to be taken on.
1 point each way Jett at 11/1 with Coral
14.30 2m Handicap Hurdle
Alan Fleming inherited Bishopslough from Tony Mullins. To put it mildly this is a good move for the horse. He was rated 117 when changing yards and already after 2 chase starts the horse is rated 138 over fences. Still over 118 over hurdles he looks well handicapped. Last time out he finished 7th of 23 beaten 11L in the Pierse Hurdle – that’s good enough to win many 2m handicap hurdles run in Ireland. However it only tells half the story. He was held up last for most of the race, in a 23 runner field on Leopardstown’s inside track this was always going to be problematic and he duly got a bad passage on the final bend. He was 15th jumping the last and then flew home. It was also his first start for 6mts; there’s loads more to come from him.
Good as Gold may be overpriced. She’s somewhat exposed but very consistent. She was 5th beaten 10L in the Pierse and then had the race sown up after 2miles the last day until emptying in the final 100yds. Back to the bare 2m (2m2f last time) will help immensely.
Anibale Fly is possibly priced up on reputation and connections. In my opinion 133 isn’t a lenient mark after 2 starts.
1 point each way Bishopslough at 9/2 with Bet365 and Paddy Power
3.30 2m1f Novice Chase
Alisier Dirlande looks very smart. A little mental but very smart. If he stays on his feet here he’ll have too much for the rest of them. There is however a bet in the without market.
Here over the Christmas period Dysios beat I’m All You Need by 1.5L when conceding 3lbs. Now he must concede 7lbs (& another 3lbs for Jack’s claim). I expect I’m All You Need to reverse the places, at twice the price she’s definitely a bet. That day Dysios looked to get first run on the mare – it shouldn’t happen with them fighting for second behind a tearaway leader.
Fine Article was really bad when last seen and he will find his trip a little sharp. Marchese Marconi is making his chase debut so clearly concedes an experience advantage. We probably won’t see the best of him until good summer ground arrives.
The mare ran well against tough competition last time. There’s plenty of reasons to pick I’m All You Need in the without market.
2 points win I’m All You Need (without the fav) at 9/2 with Betfair Sportsbook
16.00 2m5f Handicap Chase
Bearly Legal has twice before won two races back to back. Tomorrow he bids to do the same again. He won rather snuggly over C&D in January and a repeat performance would see him hard to beat here. The form has worked out well with the second winning since and others in behind having placed, including today at Navan. There could be improvement from it also. The last day Barely Legal missed the break and was trapped wide for most of the journey. He also made a slight mess of the last. Having won or placed in 8 of his last 12 starts he’s a consistent sort - worth backing each way having excelled around Leopardstown recently.
Your Busy is unlikely to be improving nowadays. Colms Dream clearly has jumping issues. Ballyadam Approach will need a career best over a trip likely to stretch her. Aurora Bell has a chance, the step back in trip could help him. He ran well in the Troytown back in November. Dressedtothenines is well handicapped on some old form but that’s from over 2yrs ago. There’s an argument he won’t be able to reproduce it on just his second start after 2yrs off the track.
1 point each way Barely Legal at 8/1 with Coral, Betway and Boylesports
Other notes: The 3.00 is a very hard race to get a handle on. In the 4.30 Crowded Room is as not genuine as they come. 0 from 27 won’t change for the better. Finally in the bumper; Aspen Colorado is obviously worth a close watch.
