Be Brave with Bobby at a Big Price

Regular readers will know I’m a mad Droopys Verve fan. Nineteen wins and nine seconds from thirty career starts, all at the very highest level, what’s not to like? On Saturday Droopys Verve, last year’s Greyhound Derby runner-up, will go off a very short price in the Scottish Greyhound Derby at Shawfield. But bookmakers have differing opinions. He’s 8/11 with Bet365 but 11/10 with Paddy Power. Given a clear run, very few dogs of his generation can live with Droopys Verve. But at the prices, and with a clear run not being a formality, I like the Irish-trained Braveheart Bobby.…

Poor Value on Diana as Royal Baby Name

Punters have been keen to back the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s forthcoming baby being a girl. The odds on that outcome have plummeted into 4/7 (with Paddy Power) after tennis star Serena Williams seemed to let it slip that her friend Meghan was having “a she”.  So, although short, it's probably a fair price. But Power's 3/1 about the child being named Diana isn’t. It's 12/1 in other firms and for me, even at that price, it's poor value.  There's no chance. I don’t have a firm view on an alternative name but 20/1 on Elizabeth isn't the worst…

The X Factor on Britain’s Got Talent

Flakefeet Primary School Choir is now 8/1 favourite for Britain’s Got Talent after David Walliams gave them the golden buzzer (which sends an act straight through to the semi-finals) in episode one. A second week of the ITV hit show has seen yet more names added to the betting for the 13th series. Another golden buzzer act (this time by Simon Cowell), comedian Kojo Anim, entered the market as second favourite at 10/1. Closely behind him is Jonathan Goodwin at 16/1. He performed a controversial and daring act as he set himself on fire while escaping from a straitjacket hung…

Relish Roberston’s Route to Final

We now have the draw for the 2019 World Snooker Championship and it is very bottom heavy. Ronnie O’Sullivan, as the No.2 seed, is in the very bottom bracket meaning he can meet Judd Trump, the only player who has truly stuck it to him all season, as early as the third round. Mark Allen, who has had a very strong season is also housed in the bottom half, alongside multiple World Champion Mark Selby and Jack Lisowski, who continues to climb up the rankings with a string of strong results and was runner-up in last week’s China Open. The…

Bite the Bullet in the Henlow Gold Cup

With four finalists, Mark Wallis is likely to win the Gold Cup final at Henlow on Sunday. But a good old fashioned study of the videos have steered me clear of favourite Chubbys Caviar and should send you running to Paddy Power where you can back kennel-mate Busters Bullet at 8/1. Why? Firstly Busters Bullet, who is housed in the red box, is only 9/2 at Bet365 and they are shrewd dog racing cookies. Secondly the make-up of the race makes him look like the only greyhound assured of a clear-run. 5/4 favourite Chubbys Caviar, who goes from 5 has…
