Poor Value on Diana as Royal Baby Name

Punters have been keen to back the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s forthcoming baby being a girl. The odds on that outcome have plummeted into 4/7 (with Paddy Power) after tennis star Serena Williams seemed to let it slip that her friend Meghan was having “a she”.  So, although short, it's probably a fair price. But Power's 3/1 about the child being named Diana isn’t. It's 12/1 in other firms and for me, even at that price, it's poor value.  There's no chance. I don’t have a firm view on an alternative name but 20/1 on Elizabeth isn't the worst…

The X Factor on Britain’s Got Talent

Flakefeet Primary School Choir is now 8/1 favourite for Britain’s Got Talent after David Walliams gave them the golden buzzer (which sends an act straight through to the semi-finals) in episode one. A second week of the ITV hit show has seen yet more names added to the betting for the 13th series. Another golden buzzer act (this time by Simon Cowell), comedian Kojo Anim, entered the market as second favourite at 10/1. Closely behind him is Jonathan Goodwin at 16/1. He performed a controversial and daring act as he set himself on fire while escaping from a straitjacket hung…

Knockout Value in The Voice UK

The Voice UK has reached the knockout rounds and last weekend it resulted in a shake-up in the outright betting with two outsiders making it through to the live shows.  Ultimately four acts went through to the ‘live shows’ (eight eliminated) and an additional four more will do so next weekend. Team Olly’s Jimmy Balito progressed courtesy of his rendition of Radiohead’s ‘High & Dry’. Paying tribute to his late father who passed away recently, Balito struck a chord with punters who rushed to support the singer who is now 5/1 generally. Another outsider who progressed was Team Will’s NXTGEN…

Democrats to go with Gillibrand

FGiven Paddy Power go 1/6 about Donald Trump being the Republican candidate in the 2020 Presidential election, 2/1 about him winning the election is a truly remarkable price. Your money may be tied-up for 20 months but people invest in five-year saving schemes – so I’m told. Most people are more interested in the shorter term investment which is identifying who will lead the opposition from the Democrat Party. Just this week veteran Bernie Sanders declared he was running for the role for a second time. He’s not excited the bookies, they have him chalked-up at 8/1. Early favourite, Beto…

Nelson May Be On Thin Ice!

At the turn of the year, we put forward Lady Gaga at 5/4 to win the Best Actress award at the Oscars. It’s safe to say you can rip-up those slips as she is now out to 22/1. Thankfully we put forward James Jordan to win Dancing on Ice 2019 at 5/1 at the same time and he is now top-priced 2/1 for success in that show. Wes Nelson is odds-on to win this show though at 4/6. I think Nelson may be a monumental lay though given his recent split from girlfriend and Love Island co-star, Megan Barton-Hanson, could…
