The Messenger has bets from Sandown and Punchestown today with Call me Lord and Mr Adjudicator the picks.
Sandown 3.35: Minella Daddy
Minella Daddy represents last year’s winning trainer Peter Bowen. He definitely needs to go right-handed so forget his below par run at Cheltenham last time. He remains relatively unexposed after only eight chases and has run only three times this campaign including a second at Ascot in listed company. He can race off the same mark today and blinkers are restored today (he won first two times he wore that type of headgear.)
Sandown 4.05: Call Me Lord
Sandown looks very much to be Call Me Lord’s track after three top class runs here.
He was very impressive in winning a juvenile handicap off top weight on this card last year. He then romped home, again giving weight all round on heavy going back in December. Having been beaten at Wincanton in the Kingwell any thoughts of a trip to Cheltenham were abandoned.
Instead he again made light of 11-12 to finish an agonisingly close second in the Imperial Cup. Out up another 5lbs for that effort the only route left open to him really is conditions races and this looks the obvious one being at his favoured venue. He settles well so the extra trip will hopefully not be an issue.
Punchestown 4.25: Mr Adjudicator
Willie Mullins has already wrapped up the trainers title after a stellar week at Punchestown and he can put another one over his title rival Gordon Elliott win Mr Adjudicator in this Grade 1.
A narrow winner over Farclas at the Dublin Festival at Leopardstown, the tables were turned when that rival gained his revenge in the Triumph. The selection though is a good galloping type from the flat who might find this track more to his advantage.
