Blog from Roy the Boy with bets on the Oscars, Formula E and Dancing on Ice 2019.
Where’s the punting value this week?
Vergne 3/1 for a second
Formula E has a 13-race season concluding with two races in New York City in mid-July. The first race of the 2018/19 season has already concluded. It, the Saudi Arabian Ad Diriyah ePrix, went to the Portuguese António Félix da Costa. Frenchman Jean-Éric Vergne finished second and he is the defending champion in the series.
Electric car racing is not for everyone, myself included, but Coral have lost the pot offering 3/1 about the former F1 pilot to win the 2018/19 season. He’s as short as 13/8 with Betway and 7/4 with Betfair and the well-informed Bet365. Therein I suggest, if you can, get some of the 3’s.
Gaga best at 5/4
The Oscars have been kind to us in recent years and last year we got the cake by making the connection between the Venice Film Festival and Best Film Oscar winner, ‘The Shape of Water’. Twelve months hence and the same form indicator is there for all to see. But ‘A Star of Born’, which made its debut in Venice, is top-priced 11/8 to win out this time around and that’s short.
As usual I’ve been looking at all the smart US websites for indicators and straw-pole results from experts and while 11/8 is in line with probability, Ladbrokes and Paddy Power’s 5/4 about Lady Gaga winning ‘Best Actress’ for her role in the same film is nothing less than huge, she should be in the 1/2 ballpark.
Dancing on Ice 2019
Wes Nelson won the hearts of ‘Love Island’ viewers but the Dancing on Ice audience comes from a very different gene pool. Nevertheless he’s the bookies 3/1 ‘jolly’ to win ‘Dancing on Ice 2019’ despite not hailing from a theatrical background.
Surely former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ pro James Jordan (5/1 Powers) is a better bet. Love or loath him (I personally cannot stomach him but the head should not rule the heart), he is a dancer by profession and that means he should be head and shoulders above a host of have been singers and reality TV ‘stars’ such as Gemma Collins and Bryan McFadden.
