Blog from Roy The Boy and he has bets on King Elvis in the William Hill Classic Dogs and Jeffrey de Zwaan to beat Michael Van Gerwen.
Elvis can be top hound dog at Sunderland on Wednesday
Betvictor have surely made a mistake in offering 9/4 about King Elvis in the valuable William Hill Classic at Sunderland on Wednesday night. Ladbrokes go just 11/8 about the Liz & Rab McNair trained dog. The 2017 Greyhound of the Year is one of two finalists the couple have in the final, the other being market rival King Turbo (top-priced 13/8).
But ‘Elvis’ has superior early pace and, based on the sectionals posted in the first two rounds of this competition, he looks likely to turn the opening bend in front. I’ll take him for that reason alone. The second reason is my ‘tissue’ in which I marked him up at 5/4 following the semi-finals and announcement of the draw.
Zwaan the man against MVG
Talking of BetVictor, their World Matchplay Darts start on Saturday. The more I look at it the more I think Michael van Gerwen is the worst odds-on shot I’ve ever seen and I’m against him in this competition.
MVG’s been beaten a lot recently; Dimitri Van den Berg claimed an 8-3 decision over him in the German Darts Masters. James Wade beat him by the same score-line in the US Darts Masters. Last week, in the Shanghai Masters, it was Michael Smith who beat him 8-4. And a month ago Ireland’s Brendan Dolan eliminated him from the Danish Open.
Look, play for pennies, but why not start your opposition of MVG in the very first round? He’s playing Jeffrey de Zwaan who can be backed at 12/1 for the game. You may have never heard of him but Zwaan beat the great MVG the last time they met. That meeting wasn’t in a tin-pot crap-shot event, it was in the 2018 UK Open in March (a darting ‘major’) and the score-line was 10-8. In other words, no fluke.
