Death of a Frontman

The big news of the last week, Verne Troyer, known to millions as Mini-Me in the Austin Powers films has died.  His passing is not exactly an Elvis Presley-esq event albeit I dare guess a few ‘heads’ at BGO online casino will be in tears.  The squeakily spoken midget was their poster boy after all, and the entire site is seemingly built around him.

Another online casino and sportsbook, Leo Vegas, have had to retire their front man after regulators insisted it could entice minors to take an interest in gambling.  If you recall they were fronted by a teddy-bear like cuddly lion.  I’m of the age of consent but given the site uses images of Australian greyhound racing (you know, the stretch vests and drop muzzles) to promote the fact they take bets on UK dogs – and US horse racing to advertise your ability to wager on UK and Irish horse racing (they don’t take bets on American stuff), I have no interest in them.

Ladbrokes Adverts

Anyone win at Punchestown?  All double and trebled up with Samcro I dare say?  Or did you simply have your tank on Al Boum Photo?  Hey, I’m happy to accept Paul Townend’s attempted fence bypass was a simple moment of madness and for me the jockey should look on the bright side.

Doubtlessly he will follow the footsteps of Roger Loughran in being the star of his very own Ladbrokes TV commercial.  Indeed it is Loughran who is seen hundreds of times a day celebrating on Central House as Hi Cloy and Fota Island are driven out to the winning post a further 100 yards up the course.

At least he got the better of the great Moscow Flyer who finished fourth in the 2005 Paddy Power Dial-A-Bet Chase at Leopardstown.

Conventional Barcelona

Jays the F1 is being good to me this year.  If only I could avoid all the other ‘leakages’.

The next race is almost a fortnight away and I’m already convinced it has Sebastian Vettel’s name all over it.  The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, a conventional circuit unlike Baku, was home to winter testing which Ferrari aced and given overtaking in Spain is extremely difficult, the German will surely qualify on pole and stay there.

Check This Out

But before Barcelona, I’m playing one bet in the darts on Thursday.

It’s nice and simple ... Gary Anderson to claim the highest checkout of his game against Raymond van Barneveld.  This is a 4/6 poke with Paddy Power and on all known stats there is far more chance of it prevailing than the 60 percent odds indicate.

Group 1 Form Key to 1000

There’s not been much build-up to the Guineas this year has there?  I know my ante-post voucher on Clemmie in the 1000 is now lining the floor of a bird-cage.  But Aidan O’Brien has another six bullets lined-up for the race.

This has been my most profitable flat race of all (Finsceal Beo and Special Duty were game changers for me) and stats used to work out a treat.  The biggest checklist ticker was always Group 1 winning form as a two-year-old.

But when Blue Bunting won the 2011 edition of the race, my interest in the one-mile classic started to wane and my formula for success began to fail.  In hindsight the Mahmood Al Zarooni trained horse, a 16/1 kipper, was probably "high on life" in the same way we discovered many of his peers to be.

Recommended Bets

Gary Anderson to score the 'Highest Checkout' against Raymond van Barneveld at 8/13 generally.
