The Messenger has two bets for Monday and they are Blazon at Huntingdon and Jepeck at Taunton.
Huntingdon 3.35: Blazon
Clearly a horse with a preference for better ground, Blazon has been kept fresh over the winter period whilst the going has been testing and with drier conditions at Huntingdon he can take advantage of bottom weight here.
He showed excellent form in bumpers, winning on Lingfield’s Polytrack, before running the top class Marias Benefit to a length here. There was plenty of promise too on his seasonal return and hurdling debut at Warwick when keeping on nicely into fifth on good ground. That maintained his excellent record fresh with an eye on today, given his absence his November.
His form in the autumn was patchy, but featured two modest efforts on genuinely soft going – and in the case of Worcester last time over 2m4f. He returns to the minimum trip today and trainer Kim Bailey has returned to form with three winners in the last week or so after a lean spell in mid-winter.
Taunton 4.30: Jepeck
Kayley Woollacott has yet to register a winner since taking over the trainers license from her late husband (from a very small number of runners) but Jepeck can get her off the mark, a horse she trained to win in multiple points.
Jepeck had also shown promise in hunter chases last season, notably when third over 4m at Cheltenham. However he had shown a distinct tendency to jump right and since transferring to racing under rules proper has been kept to right handed tracks.
He is a strong stayer and has already managed a third over 3m6f at Exeter twice, including the Devon National last time out, whilst he was also fourth in the Lincolnshire equivalent at Market Rasen. He has not been penalised at all by the handicapper for those consistent efforts and seems to enjoy this testing ground.
