Tweener looks at the Ladies Singles 2nd Round in the Australian Open and his first bet is Daria Gavrilova to beat Petra Kvitova.
Daria Gavrilova v Petra Kvitova
2 points Gavrilova to beat Kvitova 3/1 with BetVictor, Stan James and Bet365
- I thought Kvitova was poor in the 1st round; she missed an awful lot of balls and it’s very likely she will be in the same form for this match. If that is the case, Gavrilova should do enough and win this match.
- Kvitova has a poor recent record here; she has not been beyond the 3rd round since 2013. The humidity doesn’t suit her and ideally she would like the courts to be a little bit quicker. She did not play any warm up before this event due to a virus and it showed. Unfortunately, Kumkhum did not get enough balls back in the 1st round. This should not be a problem for Gavrilova.
- Gavrilova is at home; she has just won the Hopman Cup with Nick Kyrgios where she beat Svitolina in the final, which is a no mean feat given Svitolina generally does not lose to players rank lower than her. As one suspects given her size, she has great court speed and surprisingly she also has an aggressive game. If she plays to her level, she has every chance of winning this match.
Obviously, if Kvitova is in her best form, she wins, because I believe no one can live with her on her day. However that seldom happens; maybe a couple of tournaments a year and normally on a quick surface where she can be unplayable.
