The Messenger has two bets on Ayr Gold Cup including Aces for Ian Williams in the big race.
Chelmsford 3.25: Mountain Peak
Progressive of late, especially since adopting hold up tactics, Mountain Peak looks poised to pick up the pieces in what looks sure to be a furiously run sprint.
Ed Walker’s 3yo is 2-2 since first trying the minimum 5f trip this season and has a solid 2-4 record on the All Weather. However he put in a tremendous display on turf a couple of weeks ago to beat a field of experienced and talented older handicappers at Ascot.
He burst through from the rear that day and can do so again in a field loaded with horses that like to go flat out from the gate. My selection is quick enough early to keep up and given a clear run should be cutting them back in the home straight.
Ayr 3.50: Aces
Aces is yet another Ian Williams improver. He won in spectacular style from the rear on Derby Day at Epsom and then followed up over 7f at Newmarket. He was not so good at Goodwood last time but a fast run 6f on a straight track is more likely to favour him. He has been running on much faster going in Britain this season but has plenty of winning form on softer in France.
1pt win – Mountain Path – 3.25 Chelmsford at 9/2 with 888Sport and Sportingbet
0.5pts each-way – Aces – 3.50 Ayr at 14/1 with Sportingbet and Betfair
