Regular readers will know I’m a mad Droopys Verve fan. Nineteen wins and nine seconds from thirty career starts, all at the very highest level, what’s not to like? On Saturday Droopys Verve, last year’s Greyhound Derby runner-up, will go off a very short price in the Scottish Greyhound Derby at Shawfield.
But bookmakers have differing opinions. He’s 8/11 with Bet365 but 11/10 with Paddy Power.
Given a clear run, very few dogs of his generation can live with Droopys Verve. But at the prices, and with a clear run not being a formality, I like the Irish-trained Braveheart Bobby. He won the Kingdom Derby in December and made the final of the Easter Cup at Shelbourne Park at the start of March.
If the CV indicates he is a strong candidate, the video analysis shows Braveheart Bobby has been unlucky not to win both his heat and his semi-final – encountering third-bend trouble – and his chances are clearly better than his net form/times chance.
