Michael van Gerwen broke our hearts when breaching the 120.5 checkout line by just 2 points in last week’s Premier League but, even with his 122 finish, he remains the poorest scoring player in regards to ‘out shots’ amongst the eight contenders left in the contest.
The Dutchman, a default favourite against any player and in any market apart from handicaps, plays Rob Cross on Thursday. Cross, the 2018 World Champion, actually offers some value at 7/2 to win this match-up. He's at the very top of his game winning seven of his last eight Premier League matches.
But the safer call against MWG is in the Highest Checkout market where Cross is a good thing if prior results from this year’s competition are to be relied on. He's far superior at finishing. Just last week, he posted two ton-plus out-shots and one of those was a 140. There was a 124 finish the week beforehand (with a total of three 100+ finishes) and another 124 posted by him three weeks ago. Indeed, the 28-year-old’s competition best of 164 is the highest posted amongst the players left in the tournament.
