So far a ‘guest player’ is yet to win a match in the 2019 Unibet Premier League but all that can change on Thursday when the ageing and seemingly ailing Raymond van Berneveld faces Max Hopp, a little-known but top-class German player who will be performing before his home crowd in Berlin.
Hopp is only 22 but he has already made something of a name for himself ... particularly when playing on home soil. The young German missed three darts at a double to make the final of the European Championship at the end of 2018 (against eventual winner James Wade) and beforehand won the German Open taking the scalps of Peter Wright, Joe Cullen, Rob Cross and Michael Smith along the way.
Given ‘Barney’ sits at the bottom of the Premier League table, winless with poor averages on all fronts, he is clearly very beatable these days.
Rob Cross has won his last three Premier League games by 7-1, 7-3 and 7-3 scorelines averaging 100+ in each. He plays Gerwyn Price on Thursday and deserves his 5/4 price-tag about winning again. But a better a better proposition is him claiming more 180’s than his rival at Evens in places.
Max Hopp to beat Raymond van Barneveld @ 2.46+ on the exchanges.
