WThe imminent F1 winter testing has led to a number of bookmakers getting very interested in Formula 1 and this week they have launched a plethora of betting markets on the forthcoming season. For example you can now bet on which team will finish bottommost of the constructors points table.
In finishing rock-bottom last year Williams netted just seven points. One place above them were Toro Rosso with a considerably better score, 33 to be precise. As gobillionaire Lawrence Stroll has moved his son, Lance, from Williams, where he is a major stakeholder, to the re-branded Racing Point team which he bought mid-way through 2018, there’s a real possibility Williams may have some severe financial restrictions during the season ahead.
There has also been an exodus of key staff from the Oxfordshire team so it is hard to see a major turn-around in their fortunes. Resultantly William Hill’s 6/4 about the once invincible Williams team finishing bottom of the pile in 2019 looks enormous value.

But the best bet at this point of proceedings is possibly Unibet’s 9/10 about Charles Leclerc not winning any race during the 2019 season. The 21-year-old from Monaco – ironically a place where it is impossible to drive even a road car in third gear – has inherited a Ferrari drive from Kimi Raikkonen. And I believe any theory that he will be given a free rein this season will quickly be dispelled.
Leclerc will be a ‘second driver’ in every sense, just like his predecessor who won just one race from 100 starts in his second stint at the Italian team. Prior to this it was Felipe Massa who played whipping boy to the team’s No.1 driver, Fernando Alonso, and he went 86 races over five season without winning a race.
Maybe Charles Leclerc can better a one-from-186 record for Ferrari No. 2 drivers but I certainly know 9/10 is great value about the record extending to one-from-207 by the conclusion of the 2019 season!
